Buzzers roared, pranced and saved the tigers!

Buzzers met again on Saturday 24 September for the second BUZZ Book and Theatre Club meet. The theme for the month was "Save the Tiger" and the children learnt all about tigers and their importance through drama, role-plays, book reading, and creative expression.

The evening started off with a tiger warm up that included some fun tiger-belly-laughs and tiger-belly-cries. Children were then introduced to books The Terrible tigers and Tigers at twilight that introduced them to the theme of the month.

Mr. Daniel an Entomologist from Zoo Outreach Organization Coimbatore was our guest speaker for the day. He brought in a lot of tiger masks for the children and took them through a creative session on tigers and friends of tigers. His interaction was a lot of fun and extremely informative.

Soon after that the children had an opportunity to creatively express their thoughts in whichever way they wanted. Some of the younger children coloured and striped the tiger in red, blue, purple and orange. The older ones of the lot wrote very inspiring stories and poems. Here's one....

A body full of stripes
Running with a grace
Gives me a lot of thoughts
About your lovely face

How fast can you run
Watching you is so much fun
While you sit under the sun
why do they point at you a gun?

- Aditya Guruprasad -Class Three
(Chandrakanthi Public School)

If you want to see the rest of them. Head out to 'On the Go' in Race Course and 'That's Y Food' in R.S Puram. We wrapped up the day with a tightly packed Wild Life quiz that gave the evening its final punch!

The children came, roared, pranced and helped save the tiger with BUZZ.

Coimbatore just Buzzed!

On Saturday 27 August the children of Coimbatore and all their eager parents saw the launch of BUZZ- book club and theatre club for children at Vivekalaya School. It was a very special day for all of us who had gathered there to launch the BUZZZZZZ. And that is exactly how the day took off, with a very loud buzzzzz.

Renowned author and playwright Shreekumar Varma was our resource person for the evening, who brought in one of his popular books for young children, 'The Magic store of Nu-Cham-Vu' for reading out to the children and parents who had gathered there. After the book reading, the children were found animatedly discussing and debating the physical characteristics and personality of a mythical monster from the story.

This was followed by the lighting of the lamp by Shreekumar Varma, Shashi Ghulati, veteran theatre artist and director of several English plays, and Dr Rajeev Kamineni, Co-chair, Young Indians Coimbatore Chapter, Chief Officer, Kumaraguru College of Technology and a theatre actor. The final wick was of course lit by the all the children with great enthusiasm.

The event concluded with a very tightly contested quiz competition conducted by Hemalatha Ramesh of Long Long Ago.

Just like this meet each month, children will be introduced to new books that they may like to read. They will be asked to review or tell the story of a book they previously select. They will be introduced to characters from books, authors and their different styles of writing. Children will also be encouraged to write their own book reviews, stories, poems and illustrate stories that have been read at the club meeting. They will be introduced to theater and encouraged to convert some of the stories into an idea for dramatization...

...and much much more..so that the city would soon buzzzzzzzz with activity!
